Friday, December 21, 2012

Back for Christmas, Paper Scissors Stone has also welcomed Rolfe & Wills. Meet the talented duo...

Please can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your work?
We’re Alice Rolfe and Chloe Wills.  We print on anything we can get our on, and upholster furniture.  We often work with clients to come up with a great design for their furniture, or create our own and sell them…

What do you think makes Paper • Scissors • Stone special?
Paper Scissors Stone is special because it brings artists and makers together.  It has been the seed to so many other projects – it’s very inspirational.

What do you love most about working in your chosen discipline?
We are both makers, we love the processes of our disciplines, the challenges and the satisfaction of the final piece.

Describe your studio or workspace?
We have a studio space in Montpelier, which we share with a great portrait painter Susie Hampshire.  It’s large and bright with a great view, it’s full of fabrics, chairs which need TLC and staples… lots of staples…

What is your favourite part of Christmas?
PRESENTS!!!!!

Which fellow Paper Scissors Stone artist would you collaborate with and why?
When I first moved back to Bristol a year and a half ago I saw a print by Martha Ford and got that owww wow feeling.  I Love the depth, height, distance…. in her work… I met her through Paper Scissor Stone and got totally star struck! Very embarrassing… But we’ve met since and I managed to compose myself.

If you could choose one Christmas gift for yourself from Paper Scissors Stone, what would it be?
Too much to decide from… Maybe a beautiful phone case by Tovicorrie, or one of Boodle Boutiques prints…

Which is your favourite local independent shop or eatery in Bristol & why?
I love hardware shops…. I love Bishopston Hardware…

What are your plans for 2013?
Next year I’m going to go full time at Rolfe&Wills.  We’re still in the early days and we’ve had a great 9 months… So I’m going to put my all into it.  We will have new stockists, new designs and great chairs!!!

What is your favourite Christmas song?
The Slade one with the duck…?

Finally if you were a Christmas cracker, what inside treat would you be and why?
Ummm something useful like a mini screwdriver which doubles as a party popper...

Thanks ladies - come to Paper Scissors Stone to discover Rolfe and Wills.
